Tomorrow is the official start of Tour de Fleece, the spinning "race" that runs in conjunction with the Tour de France. If you aren't familiar with the Tour de France, let's just say it's the World series, the Wimbledon of bicycle racing. It's a month long, almost daily bicycle race that takes place mostly in France and is grueling and nuts. It is a big deal.
Both of my parents grew up in France, both of them coming to the US in their late teens/early 20's, and I grew up watching the Tour on television when we visited and later lived in France. My father was an amateur bicycle racer in his younger days, at 82 he still has cyclist calves (which I think he partially comes to naturally because I have them too), so his passion for the Tour was and still is intense.
With regards to the Tour de Fleece, I know a lot of people watch the Tour while spinning. I just use this time as a push to spin more. I love spinning but I can go months without doing it. So it's a nice excuse to start up again.
This year, I plan on taking up where i left off probably last year. I have a big bag of Hello Yarn patchwork -- a pound or so of her odds and ends -- so you know it's awesome -- that i'm spinning for a project that I've been thinking about for awhile.
all of these colors are from the same bag. the fiber looks like clouds to me.
i would also like to spin some Spunky Eclectic in Dijon and Friends Forever for another project that I've spinning for.
tonight i'm going to dust off the wheel.
