Back to the Drawing Board
on saturday, i went in to boston to pick up my brand new shiny wheel. so pretty.
the first chance i got, i gave her a spin.
what a disaster!
you see, i was getting the hang of it on adrian's green s17. i still had a little too much twist ... but i was this close...
ha! what a difference a wheel makes.
grrrrrr it's the twisty curling yarn monster!!!! hide the fiber!
napoleon's on the case.

Congrats on your wheel! Love the yarn monster. :)

The yarn monster is cute, it's true, but what warms my heart most is to see the little emperor there on that damned blanket I.love.so.much.

Good yarn monster. You could sell that on eBay. We all have them in our hall of fame. Keep going. It gets more satisfying very quickly.

It's a pretty wheel. You'll get there; just keep with it.

I love your yarn monster. And in a couple of weeks you wouldn't be able to make one if someone paid you like $500. Which is why my husband will have to put up with having HALF a hat knit in very funny chunky homespun. 'Cause I can't do it again, dammit!

The yarn monster tocks: Send that baby into Spin off! I LOVE IT BEYOND REASON> (ooooh, sorry, I didn't realize I was yelling. people are starting to stare . . .)

So true. Every wheel makes you feel a little new for a while.

I think Elisa's right, every wheel requires a brief adjustment period. So don't panic! And knit that bad yarn up. No, really, I mean it. You will be amazed the sins that knitting hides. You should do it just for the amazement factor. I'll have to post "before" and "after" pictures of my teddy bear parts--the yarn is SUCH CRAP but knit up it looks so smooth.

The yarn monster is totally cute, and it will get better, and you won't be able to make a yarn monster even if you wanted to.

I spun a lot of stuff just like that at first. Oh yes. We all did. Seriously.

So, maybe you've heard that Kellee's Ashford (the one she kindly loans out to folks to learn spinning) is a little finicky? As in, when I first started spinning with it, it would take me 45 minutes to get the tension right on new bobbins? That wheel? Well, when I got Hank, and sent the Ashford to bunk with Wendy, I actually thought that maybe I had made a mistake because my spinning on Hank was abysmal...
The point of the story? It will get better. Just relax, and let yourself get used to this new wheel. Before you know it, you'll be able to spin on any wheel that comes your way. :)

Deb is right! I love the yarn monster! Keep practicing! You will get the hang of it and you won't be able to make the twisty turny yarn monster.

Can I just say that Twisty Curling Yarn Montser is totally cute? I think you should stop trying to get better at making yarn and stick to making those. Just think of it, a whole legion of twisty curling yarn monters at your beck and call . . .
