now that the sun is out, i can actually take some progress photos.
here's where we left off with the color on color scarf that i want to finish for the world. cup. i only have 2 more sections to finish (they're big sections though) and then i'll have the i-cord to do (all of those individual strands are i-cords waiting to be knitted). i'm hoping that my feelings for icord (i kind of like it) don't change by the end of the project.
so those of you who don't think i can finish and who have mocked me ... i give you the evil eye.
*****************************
here are some washrags that i've finished. sugar n cream is so cheap and colorful that making these things is very addicting. i especially like seeing the patterns that emerge from the variegations. it isn't always pretty but it's always fun for me.
******************************
and here's where the title of the post comes in (what would you call this thing? a back hoe?). this is what greeted me when i came home from work the other day.
isn't it lovely? (it was free, so how could j not bring it home?!) if we weren't bringing down the property values of the neighborhood before, we certainly are now. good times.

Oh boy. He sounds like my husband. If it's free and it is a tool, then it MUST be good! ;-)

Its the ultimate in yard art.

Well, you could knit a cozy for the back hoe.
Posted by: Kat | June 11, 2006 at 10:57 AM
So, ummm. The back hoe is living with you now?
Posted by: Carole | June 11, 2006 at 11:38 AM
You go girl with all those washrags! Any of them on full time duty yet? And such perty colors ;-)
Are you guys excavating something? We have an old house we need torn down. How did you bring that home? I am so intrigued!

I always wanted a back hoe...oh my. what will you do with it??
Posted by: elizabeth | June 11, 2006 at 01:20 PM
The scarf is coming along, Maryse. You're ALMOST there (gogogogo!)! Washies are very cool, I might have to try something like this. They seem like great gifties. And that backhoe.... huh? Why you silly lass, what the heck are you going to do with that big creature? Seriously, free? Does it run? Very curious...

I love Kat's idea, although I'd suggest a crocheted cozy. The scarf is cool -- I'm betting that you love it once it's done.

The scarf is awesome! I've eyed that project many times but haven't added it to the *list* yet!

Who finds free back hoes?!
I love the dishcloths! I'm the same way about the varigation...
Posted by: Chris | June 11, 2006 at 04:55 PM
wow, that thing is big!
looks like you are in for some good old digging fun!
Posted by: benedetta | June 11, 2006 at 06:19 PM
Holy crap, that thing is big! You could be like some of my (sort of) neighbors and make it an art installation- they have a John Deere with corn planted around it, and hanging pots.
I know you can finish the scarf, and I can't wait to see it.

I love all the colors in both the scarf and all the washclothes. I need to jump on that washcloth bandwagon soon. I haven't made any yet!
Posted by: Coleen | June 11, 2006 at 10:38 PM
I never doubted your scarf-finishing skills, so no evil eye for me! Hooray! The other great thing about the dishcloths is the fact that they're dishcloths so if they end up not being pretty, then it's ok, not like a sweater that ends up coming out funky.
I would be pretty excited about a free backhoe, but I'd rather have one of those little ones. I don't know what I'd do with but, but hey, free backhoe!
Posted by: scribblesnbits | June 12, 2006 at 08:50 AM
Does your backhoe have a bucket? That would be ideal for planting some petunias in.
I apologize for ever doubting you would finish the scarf and I'm glad to see that you're almost done! It's a miracle.

Your own backhoe. Wow. You know, not too many people can say that they have their own personal backhoe. ;-)
Could you use that fancy dishcloth stitch in a garment? Why not, right? I'm imagining a really chic tailored jacket, perhaps in some slightly slubby silk or linen blend. Ooooh.

Holy backhoe, Batman! I'm speechless.
Posted by: Lucia | June 12, 2006 at 11:54 AM
That is one ugly-assed hoe. (sorry j.)
Posted by: claudia | June 12, 2006 at 12:06 PM
Whee! You have a backhoe!
I'm totally jealous.
And I really like those washcloths!
(and I need to start my colour on colour scarf one of these years...)

I so want my very own Cat. I'd settle for a backhoe, but a Cat would make my day.

Just think about the sort of leverage you have now about how much yarn you can bring home. I mean, a huge hoe in the yard?? That has to be the equivalent to at least a couple of full fleeces.... ;)
Posted by: Jackie | June 12, 2006 at 08:00 PM
And you are going to do WHAT with that? The warshrags will come in handy for post-backhoe cleanup.

Cozy for the Backhoe! love it! in Sugar and Cream! :)
Those dishcloths are so cute, M!

Oh, my. I'm laughing out loud over here, thinking of what a back hoe would look like on our lawn. HIlarious.
