Olympic Progress
the opening ceremonies at doyle's were a lot of fun. the team boston organizers had done a marvelous job with the buttons and the torch and the organizing. they've won the gold medal in my book. i don't know how many boston area knitters were there, but we did fill up two long tables and caused enough of a raucus to change the image of knitters for doyle's patrons forever. unfortunately i have no pictures, but i'm sure there will be pictures surfacing soon enough.
because of the nature of my project, with all of the little tiny skanks of yarn, i ended up not starting with the lighting of the olympic flame, but rather the evening chatting and finishing up my latest commuter project: a neckwarmer made with 2 skeins of noro kujaku in a tiny cabled rib pattern.
however, on day one, i got straight to work.
i organized the little skanks by color, and put them into labeled baggies.
then i got to knitting.
i'm not in love yet. i'm not sure i even want to go out on a second date, but we'll see.

Don't give it up. You will hate it until about the almost done point, but it's so, so worth it. I found that steam blocking mine frequently really helped it go together nicer and made me hate it less in progress.
Isn't that tapestry yarn INSANE?? I screwed around with sorting and finding the right color of yarn as much as I knit on the actual scarf.
Good luck!
Oh, and weaving in all the ends sucks monkey butt, too. I tried spit grafting at one point but it showed too much so I had about eighty bajillion ends...

I'm so glad Suzanne mentioned that thing, I've been thinking about it a lot lately....
Love the neckwarmer, I bet it came in handy today (hopefully you called in snow, if the reports are to be believed). I'm still tempted to try the scarf, I am eager to see your progress.

Don't hate it yet!
A famous librarian (Nancy Pearl) said you had to read x=(100-your age in years) pages of a book and still hate it before you abandoned the reading forever. So if this applies to knitting, how many hours (or colors, or stitches, or sections) do you have to knit before you abandon it forever?

What is that, embroidery floss? Where on God's green earth do you buy little itty bitty skeins like that?

My knit pal RoseAnne romanced that scarf for a year before casting on. It was gorgeous at the halfway point before she gave up on it (she's funny that way). I'll keep my fingers crossed that love will find you soon.
