a few weeks ago, i joined netflix. and at carolyn's suggestion, i rented season 1 of the gilmore girls. i am now obsessed. i want to be part of the show, except that i want the show to be real life. j and i would live in a house like lorelai's, with a big farmer's porch and archways in the entry. i would run the local yarn shop/book store when i wasn't teaching biology at the local highschool. j would be the town handyman with his own handyman van. lorelai and sookie and i would be friends. it would all be very fun and grand. my commute would be all of 10 minutes and i could do it on my bike. my friends wouldn't bore me with gymboree and playdate talk. i could have house of my dreams and i could surround myself with beautiful yarn. j has pointed out to me that wanting to be part of a tv show is insane. he's also pointed out to me that a single mother, manager of a hotel, could not in a million years afford the house she lives in only 30 minutes outside of hartford, unless her very rich parents had in fact bought it for her. he likes to burst my bubble. he does like the idea of being the town handyman though. (by the way, he's watched several episodes with me). one question. i'm almost done watching season 2. and there are no season 3 or 4 dvds available. i've been taping season 5. can i watch season 5 now?
my trip to alabama proved to be insanely busy but not very interesting. (not because alabama couldn't potentially be interesting by the way. but more because i spent the entire 3 days in a hotel off of the interstate in a conference room with no windows.) i did get to drive by a piggly wiggly but that was pretty much the highlight of the trip. i loved "driving miss daisy." that's where miss daisy liked to shop.
even with all of that excitement, i did manage to knit up a scarf. (yes it's from Last Minute Knitted Gifts)

that's one scarf? the colors look great together? is that from LMKG?

Welcome to the Gilmore Girls fan club. I have been obsessed for years. Having lived in West Hartford for 6 years and knowing the county that the show takes place in, I can assure you J. is correct. Lorelai would never be able to afford it. It is a nice dream though.
I think you can start watching season five - there is a major development this year that will sort of ruin two seasons of tension for you though. I think it's worth it though, because who knows when the other two seasons will come out and no one should have to miss out on Gilmore Goodness. If you have any questions, I can fill you in.

Hey there -- 1) I just ordered Gilmore Girls on my blockbuster.com queue on your recommendation! Thanks! (It'd been on my mind for a little time, but thanks for reminding me!) 2) I just made a similar Noro SG scarf that I'd just realized I'd forgotten to post, so I'll have to do it soon ... isn't that such a fun little pattern?? (From LMKG right?) 3) I, too, totally obsess over chicken wings and have since I spent a summer in Mexico and missed chicken wings the entire time! I've never recovered from those constant cravings, and my husband makes fun of me for it! 4) I, too, have really been thinking about making quilt-inspired knitted afghans lately (a la Bear Claw quilt in spring IWK, and there's a few other patterns out there, too) ... what are you doing exactly? Do blog. I've recently told my knitter-designer-author friend Tara that I think it'd be a cool book to write! (Her response: go do it! I don't think I will, though. Still love to hear about yours.)
Okay, enough babbling for one night. :) Take care, Jenifer

I really like the Gilmore Girls too. It's a great show. Too bad I can't watch it from over here. I guess I could buy the DVD too....

Season 3 comes out in May, I have no idea about 4 and 5. I would say watch now, but you still have to promise to watch the other seasons, ok? And tell J it's ok, Mik loves the show and watches with me.
Don't worry, I don't think it's sad at all. When Lauren gave me her addy, the first thing I thought was, 'She lives near Rory and Lorelei.' As if she could just get in her car and drive to Stars Hollow.
The other thing that I think is bitchin' about the show is that they have Rory's book club online (yes, I know I'm a saddie that I know these things, but just go with me), where almost every week, they have a recommendation of a newer and older book that tie together.

Beautiful scarves.
Piggly Wiggly--the name says it all. The chain is very big in Charleston, and my husband loves to shop there. The family who owns it lives here and instead of lions in front of their fabulous mansion, they have pigs.
Just throwing some 411!

you could always go to television without pity and read the recaps for seasons 3 and 4.

Oh my, what a glorious blog you have! I have only seen a few episodes of Gilmore Girls and thought it wonderful, I should borrow your idea and rent season one. Oh, and Driving Miss Daisy is indeed wonderful.
Now, I think I have some blogrolling to do. Yes, in fact I know I do.

Hey, ABC Family shows re-runs of Gilmore Girls in the late morning every weekday, and weekends too! Right now, they're cycling through what I think is the beginning of season 2. Don't watch season 5 yet, if you can wait through a few months of daily GG bliss! I've been TiVo-ing the episodes daily, and sadly, now I think I've seen them all so I only get one new episode a week, if I'm lucky.
